Mdina and Rabat - Мдина и Рабат
Classic Mdina and Rabat Tour - Классический тур по Мдине и Рабату
Half Day (4 hrs) - Полдня (4 часа)
Mdina, the old capital of Malta, and Rabat, its suburbs, are Malta’s historical hotspots for Roman and Medieval periods. We suggest that you start discovering this locality in the very centre of the island by following the Mdina and Rabat Classical Tour.
The starting point is the Mdina Main Gate. We will walk along the narrow streets of this medieval fortified town discovering its past manifesting itself in the palaces of the oldest Maltese noble families, chapels and state buildings. The highlight of our Mdina walk will be a visit to St. Paul’s Cathedral where we will learn about the Apostle of the Gentiles and what Malta owes him for. Stopping by the Carmelite priory we will be discussing the rich religious heritage of the Maltese islands. And since Mdina is situated at one of the highest spots of Malta, we will be enjoying a panoramic view of the whole island from its belvedere on the bastions.
Walking out of Mdina from its Greek Gate, we will be heading to the Roman Domus Museum. There we will learn about the Roman period in the history of Malta and discuss what a typical Roman townhouse was like. After visiting the Roman Domus we will proceed to another silent witness of this historical period, St. Paul’s catacombs in Rabat where we will learn about burial practices of pagans, Jews and Christians.
